Curiosity, Community and Inclusion This Autism Month
This April, people across South Australia are taking part in Purple in Action, Autism SA’s Autism Month campaign.
The campaign encourages individuals, workplaces and communities to get curious, celebrate difference and create welcome.
At its heart, Purple in Action is about recognising that people experience the world in different ways — and that those differences make our communities stronger.
Curiosity can be powerful. When we pause and notice the world around us, we begin to see perspectives we might not have considered before.
That curiosity can lead to conversations that help create more inclusive communities.
Two Ways to Take Part
1. Purple Lunch
Workplaces, schools and community groups can host a Purple Lunch, bringing people together for a short session that explores how people think and experience the world differently.
These conversations can help build understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
2. 30 Days of Curiosity Challenge
Individuals can also take part in the 30 Days of Curiosity Challenge.
Each day during April, participants are encouraged to notice something interesting or unexpected in the world around them and share it using #PurpleInAction.
By noticing the small details — patterns, sounds, colours, moments — we begin to appreciate the many ways people experience their environment.
Building Inclusive Communities
Autism SA has been working alongside autistic people and families since 1964, advocating for communities where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
Campaigns like Purple in Action help create moments of curiosity and conversation that contribute to greater understanding and celebration of neurodiversity.
Together, we can help build communities where autistic people feel included, respected and supported.
